Sandy recently encountered a person on Facebook expressing suicidal thoughts and responded with what she felt were supportive words, yet she remains unsure if she could have done more. To handle such situations effectively in the future, Sandy should engage in active listening, express empathy, and encourage the person to seek professional help or reach out to a crisis hotline. It’s crucial to avoid keeping their suicidal thoughts a secret, make a safety contract with them, and ensure they are not left alone until they receive appropriate support.
